As those who were at the AGM already know, I am organising a club trip to ride the Dunwich Dynamo in 2024. We will join several thousand riding from Hackney, London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast on 20th-21st July 2024. It will be the 32nd edition of the ride.
If you haven’t heard of it, the Dunwich Dynamo is a special ride that deserves a place amongst your thoughts. It’s 115 miles on roads from Hackney, London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. Through the night on quiet country roads (once we get out of London). There is no recognisable organisation, no entries, it’s free and you have all night. You just turn up and do the ride, ensuring you are self-sufficient. There are pubs, cafes, village halls and other refreshment stops along the way that open specially for the event. The spirit is great, which includes support from those who live along the route. Several businesses in Dunwich open extra early to reward finishers with breakfast as the sun rises over the beach. Plenty of websites will tell you more about it.

The trickiest aspect of taking part involves getting to the start in central London and then getting home from the remote finish on a Sunday morning. Transport options are very limited, so a club trip using a private coach is ideal. The only cost to take part covers the cost of the coach hire for two days, estimated to be around £90 per person.
Likely Itinerary:
• Saturday 20th July 2024: coach departs from Cheltenham around 15.00 (time TBC). Arrives in London Fields Park, Hackney around 19.00 (allowing for a stop en route). The ride starts whenever you like. Most depart the park from 20.00 onwards.
• Sunday 21st July: coach departs from Dunwich once everyone has completed the ride and grabbed a well-earned breakfast from the café on the beach, pub or local tea-rooms. The likely departure time is between 07.00 and 09.00. The coach then returns us to Cheltenham.
The same coach will transport us and our bikes. Bikes will go in the hold underneath the coach. So that bikes are suitably protected, they will be loaded by us with the front wheel and both pedals removed. Each bike will have a packing blanket to protect it.
Interest at the AGM was really good, possibly accounting for almost half of the 20 available places already. If you are interested or have already decided you want to come, please email me asap at CyclingEvent@outlook.com. I need enough bookings early to have the confidence to pay for the coach.
Any questions, please comment below or email me.

Tonight is the Dunwich Dynamo and, had we gone ahead, we would have been on the road by now for 100 very special miles through the night. Maybe, if there’s enough interest, I’ll try again organising for next year.
Reluctantly, this trip has been cancelled. If you booked, you have an email from me concerning refunds.
It's worth doubling up the message on the FB group
Final call for anyone who wants to come but has yet to book. The trip will be cancelled next week due to a lack of numbers unless there are a few more of you out there.
Please don't let the possibility of cancellation put you off. All money will be refunded should this happen.
Giving this a bump for your consideration.
After the early uptake, the numbers have stalled a bit. If you're interested in coming along to join the fun, please get in touch (details in the opening post). Friends of club members are welcome to join us.
Because there is a coach booking to make and manage, I won't be able to keep this open for too much longer. If the numbers aren't sufficient to consider going ahead by the end of February, I will reluctantly have to cancel the trip.
There probably won't be a better opportunity to do this. Go on. You know you want to... 😉
Bookings are now being taken if you're interested. In under a week, we're a third full already 🙂
