After a near blue on blue collision on Sunday, it's worth reminding everyone that we need to be careful on the roads. We all like to keep moving when on a ride but when approaching a junction we should be expecting to stop, not expecting to go.
If you are the first rider the road may be clear enough for you to enter the road, the second rider is likely to just follow your wheel and so on, but consider the size of the group and the gap in the traffic. Slow down, get a good view of the situation and communicate it back to the group. If in doubt then stop. Ideally there needs to be enough of a gap for the whole group, or if very busy consider briefly splitting the group. Which leads on to group sizes... A post for another Tuesday but please remember we should be in groups of 10 or less.
A useful technique is shown in this YouTube video from British Cycling - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OybU_YH438A&pp=ygUbQnJpdGlzaCBDeWNsaW5nIHJpZGUgbGVhZGVy
Sprinting off the front to marshall the group through a junction is useful - but remember there needs to be a gap in the traffic that is big enough for the group
A very valuable reminder 👍
Whenever we are in front of another rider in a group, irrespective of being at the very front or not, we take a responsibility for the safety of those behind us.
